Information for international travellers

Passengers are hereby informed that all the imports of plant and plant products as accompanied luggage require a Plant Import Permit (PIP) from the country of destination and a Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) from the embarking country. These imports are subject to quarantine inspection at the time of arrival at the point of entry in order to ensure freedom from exotic pests and diseases that could harm the biodiversity of the country.

Passenger should ensure that no prohibited item is imported and that all regulated items should be accompanied by a PIP and PC.

Kindly note that items not presenting any biosecurity risk, will be returned back to the passenger.

Declaration of agricultural goods upon arrival

  • Passengers are advised to declare any agricultural goods at the Customs upon arrival.
  • Declared agricultural goods will then be inspected by a Plant Quarantine Officer at the airport / seaport. The goods may be directed for treatment, reshipment or destruction depending on the level of biosecurity risk of the item. A detained certificate will be issued by the Officer mentioning the items that have been detained, reason for them being detained and course of action i.e whether item will be detained for destruction without any compensation, reshipped or sent for treatment at the passenger’s cost.

Please observe the quarantine restrictions that apply to the movement of plants, plant products, animal and animal products and help us protect the unique biodiversity of Mauritius.

Kindly note that passengers travelling to Mauritius from Reunion Island during the White grub period (1 November to 15 January) are requested to check the absence of white grub in their luggage prior to embarkation in order to prevent its introduction into Mauritius.
