Welcome to the National Plant Protection Office Imports into Mauritius Exports from Mauritius

About the National Plant Protection Office

The NPPO is the national regulatory body in the area of Plant Health and its  mandate has been officially and clearly spelled out as per provisions of the Plant Protection Act 2006, as follows:-

“To protect our country’s agricultural economy and natural resources from introduction, establishment and spread of exotic pests, to help towards plant health improvement and to facilitate export certification of plant and plant products for safe global trade in agricultural commodities as per our obligations under International agreements”.

The NPPO despite several constraints has been able to keep the country free of major pests of agricultural concern.

The NPPO, as per its mandate, acts as a gateway for promoting safe trade and market access in agricultural and agro industrial products.  International trade and travel continue to increase. Businesses and industries operate in a global economy and are linked around the world through complex relationships. As the volume, complexity, and speed of international trade and travel continue to increase, so does the risk that foreign animal and plant pests and diseases can enter and become established in Mauritius. The NPPO will take steps to integrate and streamline its safeguarding system so as to keep pace with the demands of international trade and travel.
