The Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Information Management Portal is a project in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration & International Trade, funded by the European Union under the SADC Trade Related Facility. The aim of the portal is to facilitate trade operators with all the SPS related information that they may require in order to comply with the regulatory obligations in relation to trade of plant and animal products.
The overall objective of the portal is to facilitate trade and increase transparency by consolidating all sanitary and phytosanitary trade related information into one user-friendly web portal. The portal provides accurate and easily accessible information related to food safety, animal health, plant health and quality trade standards, regulations amongst others and will be an important and comprehensive database.
The Portal also provides a platform for online application and issue of Phytosanitary Certificates electronically.

You may wish to search the sanitary and phytosanitary import requirements for plants / plant products and animals / animal products regulated under legislative framework in Mauritius.
Sanitary and phytosanitary import conditions which will be attached to the Import Permit to be issued from the National Plant Protection Office (NPPO) / Livestock and Veterinary Division (LVD) should be considered as final and should be strictly complied with by the exporting country at the time of importation.

Food Safety which is one of the three components dealt with in the WTO SPS Agreement, aims at protecting human health from unlawful additives and contaminants in food. The Codex Alimentarius Commission (Codex) is one of the three international setting body in the SPS Agreement dealing with food safety.
