Animal Health Surveillance and Epidemiology Unit
The Animal Health Surveillance and Epidemiology Unit (AHSEU) of the Livestock and Veterinary Division are responsible for the following:
- Running the Animal Health Laboratory
- Conducting necropsy of animal carcasses upon request of the Police
- Gross pathology
- Collection, transport, storage of samples for diagnosis purposes
- Animal disease surveillance by serological tests.
- Implementing early disease detection and response strategies in respect to infectious diseases
- Meat speciation tests
- Performing diagnostic tests in regards to diseases (microbiological, serological).
- Performing screening to provide evidence for presence or absence of disease in the animal population
- Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing for antimicrobial resistance.
- Performing screening to provide evidence for presence or absence of disease in the animal population
- Implement the regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with existing veterinary legislations
