Animal Diseases Act 1925

This Act deals with the importation, procedures and diseases of animals. It conveys power of verification, control and quarantine of animals coming from abroad.

Meat Act 1974

The Mauritius Meat Authority is established for the purposes of this Act to manage abattoirs, regulates the purchase and importation of livestock prior to slaughter, market meat, meat products and by products of the slaughtering process, construct, maintain, and rent places for the sale of meat, meat products or byproducts of the slaughtering process, control and regulate the sale of meat and meat products, license persons and premises in connection with the slaughter of animals for meat, and the preparation, processing, packing and marketing of meat and with the approval of the Minister to whom responsibility for the subject of prices and consumer protection is assigned, fix the price of meat and meat products.

Food Act 1998

This act regulates selling or advertising for sale, consigning, delivering, or serving by way of sale, preparing for sale or presenting, labelling, bottling, packing or wrapping for the purposes of sale, storing or transporting for the purpose of sale and importing and exporting of Food.

NAPRO Act 2013

This act regulates the activities and premises in connection with the slaughtering of animals.

Pharmacy Act 1983

This act regulates the import of drugs including veterinary medicinal products. It exercises control over the manufacture, importation, distribution, sale and possession of any drug.

The Dangerous Drugs Act 2000

This act consolidates the law relating to dangerous drugs and to make further and better provision for the control of dangerous drugs, the treatment of addiction, the prevention, detection and repression of drug trafficking, the prevention of laundering of drug money in Mauritius, the sentencing of drug-traffickers, seized assets of drug offenders to be vested in designated institutions, restriction of bail and minimum penalties in respect of certain serious drug offences and the punishment of persons making false statements in relation to drug offences.

Animal Welfare Act 2013

The objectives of the Act are to, among others, protect animals from distress, pain and suffering in the best possible way; promote the welfare and good treatment of animals; and regulate dog keeping, dog breeding and importation of certain dangerous dogs.

Artificial Insemination of Animals Act 1946

The Act provides regulations for controlling the practice of artificial insemination and, in particular, for prohibiting, subject to such exemptions as may be specified in the regulations, the distribution and sale of the semen of any such animal.

Veterinary Council Act 2020

The Council governs the registration of veterinarians and the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery. Its functions include inter alia the exercise and maintenance of discipline in the practice of veterinary surgery; the establishment of a code of practice for the veterinary profession on the basis of professional conduct and veterinary ethics; and the handling of complaints.

Mauritius Veterinary Association Act 1974

The objectives of this association are to support and protect the character, status, interest and honor of the veterinary profession in Mauritius, safeguard the interest and well-being of its members, consider and settle professional differences and further the advancement of veterinary science in Mauritius.
